Sarah is a dog trainer and dog hiker that lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She began working with dogs in 2009, starting out working with a bully breed rescue in Ontario. She also helped organize, fundraise, and foster for several other rescue groups locally, fostering somewhere over 20 dogs and puppies. She also founded and ran a non-profit group helping low income and street involved people get health care and food for their pets. She also worked at several local dog daycares in the area as well as volunteering at the local SPCA, assisting in hoarding and puppy mill situations.
In 2012 Sarah began working with Sublime Canine Services. Sublime is a dog training company in Halifax, NS that offers a variety of reward-based pet and dog sport classes. Sarah now runs Sublime, and you can find her teaching Puppy Socialization classes, Basic Life Skills classes, Trick and specialty classes, as well as private training, online training, and their Puppy Board & Train Program. In 2013 Sarah began her business Call of the Wild Canine Services, where you can find her during weekdays hiking groups off-leash in the great wilderness areas around Halifax and Dartmouth.
Sarah has always had an interest in reactive behaviour and working with fearful/shy dogs. She taught the expanded Reactive Dog Class and Jollytails. Sarah is also a part of The Muzzle Up! Project, advocating and educating about using muzzles ethically and responsibly. You can find her on The Bitey End of the Leash podcast and Teach Me About Doggies, speaking about issues like resource guarding and muzzles.
Enthusiastic about trick training and having fun with your dog, she feels that trick training is the best foundation to every human/dog team. Her dog Zephyr, a pitbull/rottie mix, has his Trick Dog Champion title, as well as his Canine Good Neighbour certificate. In Zephyr’s younger days he dabbled in dock diving, CDDA competitions, and rally obedience. Zephyr used to attend all of Sarah's classes with her and enjoyed mingling with the puppies during their Puppy Socialization classes. These days Zephyr is living the good life spending his days in the woods or on the beach, sniffing till his heart is content.
Sarah's youngest dog is Frankie the Springer Spaniel. Frankie enjoys coming out on Sarah’s hikes with her dog walking business, as well as assisting her in all of her dog training classes. Frankie has competed in dock diving (Dock Senior title), and has been competing in disc dog. They are starting to learn freestyle for disc together, but her greatest joy is running free in the woods at the lake.
